Seventh Grader Saves Classmates After Bus Driver Faints At The Wheel

we hope that when we send our kids off to school, we place them in the protective care of adults who’d look after them like their own.

But sometimes, life moves beyond our control. We have to equip our children with the ability to protect themselves the best they can when we’re not around, and the following heartwarming story proves just how one boy did exactly that.

Seventh grader Jeremy Wuitschick had boarded his bus one morning as if it were any other day. There’s no way he or his fellow classmates could have known that their routine trip to schoolwould turn into any parent’s nightmare in mere minutes.

According to reports, the bus driver soon became ill (reports at the time speculated that it could have been a heart attack) and had fallen unconscious at the wheel, the bus full of students still making its way down the road.

So Jeremy leapt into action. He told KOMO News, “I grab the wheel, turn it right to get it to the right side of the road. I take the keys out of the ignition, the engine starts turning off, and [we] start slowing down.” The bus pulled over and eventually came to a stop.

This incredible seventh grader managed to save not only his own life, but the life of his fellow students. Another student at the time called 911 on his cell phone, and authorities arrived on the scene.

“I’ll tell you, I’ll give the kid credit for fast thinking,” Milton Police Chief Bill Rhodes told ABC News. “He did the right thing and we’re going to do something for him. The kid definitely deserves credit.”

It’s so important that our kids know how to respond in a time of crisis. Please SHARE this story with your friends to make sure they remind their kids what to do in case of an emergency!
